Bronze Antique Islamic kohl (surma dani) bottle. Used mostly by women but at times men would use as well, bottles like this held makeup similar to eye liner or mascara by grinding stibnite, sometimes called antimonite, which is a sulfide mineral; Size H 6.75'' x W 3.5'' Provenance: Collected between 1945-1960 by Carl O. Winberg, former United States Government diplomat, agricultural attache and Foreign Service officer serving across Indonesia, India Burma, Bangladesh and Australia; thence by descent to the present owner.
