ANCIENT DINOSAUR DUNG PLUS THE LARGEST TYRANNOSAURUS SKULL EVER OFFERED AT AUCTION, A COMPLETE TRICERATOPS SKULL, AND OTHER PREHISTORIC ITEMS TO BE FEATURED AT I.M. CHAITíS ANNUAL NATURAL HISTORY AUCTION MARCH 24 IN NYC
Here is an auction of prehistoric pieces that is nothing to pooh-pooh.
Beverly Hills & New York: Indeed, featured items at the I.M. Chait Gallery/Auctioneers Annual Natural History Auction in New York City will be two beautiful specimens of ancient dinosaur dung, as well as the largest Tyrannosaurus skull ever offered at auction, a complete Triceratops skull, and ancient insects fossilized in amber while mating. The auction will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 2 PM at I.M. Chait, 595 Madison Ave. (at 57th St.), 6th floor.
At 65 million years old, Lot 178 the first piece of dinosaur dung is a cut and polished slice from Utah. The second piece, Lot 179 found in Washington State, is an estimated 20 million years old and measures about five inches long; experts agree it was likely left by a very young dinosaur. The two pieces are estimated to sell at auction for $400-$600 each.
At four feet in length Lot 191, the Tyrannosaurus skull is by far the largest ever offered at any auction-if its jaws were propped open, this T-Rex could literally swallow a person whole. The skull is expected to sell for an estimated $250,000 - $300,000.
Held in a private collection for many years is Lot 189 (pictured atop). This Triceratops skull will be the first ever offered at auction in New York City. The skull is fairly complete, with a restored frill, and measures nearly seven feet long from the back of the frill to the tip of its beak. This skull is expected to garner $125,000 - $175,000 at auction.
Lot 63 the mating insects, dating back to 30 million years, are estimated to sell for between $400 - $600.
Other prehistoric collectibles in the multi-million dollar auction include Moon and Mars rocks, platinum and gold nuggets, and many other fine minerals, dinosauria, meteorites and fossils.
Previews for the auction will be held at I.M Chait Gallery/Auctioneers in Beverly Hills from March 1-5 (11AM-5PM or by appointment), as well as at I.M. Chait in New York City from March 18-23, (10AM-6PM or by appointment) and March 24 (10AM-2PM or by appointment). For more information on I.M. Chaitís Natural History Auction visit: www.chait.com.
