LARGE SCHOOLING FISH PLAQUE
Knightia sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation, Lincoln Co., Wyoming, USA

This large plaque boasts a fantastic fifty-five complete and finely-preserved fossil fish. The knightia was one of the most abundant species in the freshwater lake system of this area, 50 million years ago. They were a relative of the modern herring and a tasty snack for the large denizens of the lake. The Green River fossils are renowned for their high quality, and this plaque amply demonstrates why. It has been cut with an irregular outline and the surface has been left partially rough for a pleasingly naturalistic effect, and it measures approximately 40 x 35 inches.
Estimate $3,000-4,000
