Sale NH0903 Lot 208 FOSSIL FISH PLAQUE Priscacara liops, knightia eocaena Eocene Green River Formation, Lincoln Co., Wyoming, USA As well as being a pretty good Creedence album, Green River is a tributary of the Colorado River and gives its name to an Eocene fossil formation centered around the Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah. By far the most abundant part of the formation, however, is the "Fossil Lake" area found south-western Wyoming. The number and quality of the fish species found there have made it world-famous, and this beautiful plaque is a perfect example of its superlative fossils. A fat little priscacara, 4 3/4 inches long, approaches two sprat-like knightia, each about 5 1/2 inches long. The fish have the characterful deep brown coloring and exceptional detail, and contrast beautifully with the pale gray layered and textured matrix, 18 x 24 inches. Estimate $900-1,200
