SEPTARIAN SPHERE
Upper Jurassic
Ulyanovsk and Saratov region, Volga River, Russia
Formed over 65 million years ago, septarian nodules were originally dried mud, the natural fissures filled over time with calcite as the mud turned to stone. This is a beautifully polished example, carved into a 7 1/2 inch diameter sphere and presented on a teardrop shaped base of the same material.
