PARTIAL LIZARD IN AMBER
Cretaceous
Hukawng Valley, Myanmar

Animals the size of this lizard are generally too large to be caught in the oozing tree resin that hardened into amber; in addition, even if completely enclosed, the body's bacteria would work to break down the soft tissue before it can be preserved. This is therefore a fine and rare specimen, even if the creature is missing its head and lower legs, in a teardrop shaped golden cabochon 1 1/2 inches long.
