FINE AMERICAN TRILOBITE
Arctinurus boltoni
Silurian
Rochester Shale, Medina, New York
Although trilobites are found the world over, this particular species, often referred to as the "Emperor of the North American trilobites", is found in only one location, near Buffalo, NY, and is certainly the most desirable of all trilobites to be found on this continent. It is characterized by a "bat wing" appearance on the posterior lateral segments and a pustulose surface texture giving it an unmistakable appearance possessed by no other trilobite genus in the world. The present example displays fine ridged definition and texture in soft black, 5 3/8 inches long, on a pale gray matrix.
