Preserved in spectacularly lifelike detail, this is a prime reason why the lithographic limestone fossils of Solnhofen are so highly prized, from gossamer wings to distinctly segmented abdomen, with a 7 5/8 inch wingspan on a creamy matrix measuring 14 inches at the widest point, dramatically shot through with the dendritic tendrils of mineral-rich water seepage.
