This ancient nautiloid has been cut in half to expose the wondrous, calcite-crystal filled chambers inside. Highly prized by collectors for their exotic look, ammonites are fossil relatives of the octopus, squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus, and became suddenly extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, some 65 million years ago. The pair measure 11 3/4 inches wide and is custom mounted on black metal stands.
